Self Learning – All about fine tuning & adapting your senses..
We human beings have been gifted with many extra-ordinary abilities and one of the very important one is ability to learn new things. Have you ever pondered that from the very first time you started walking or swimming or driving, you have never forgotten anything ,even if you have never tried doing some of them over years. For example, if you learnt swimming 10 years back and never got time to enjoy since then, do you think you would struggle to swim now ? Not Really, I am sure you can still swim well with some warm-ups. Same thing goes with other things as well.
Now coming to the main point, what do you think we actually do when we learn something new ? Oh I can hear so many answers and viewpoints :) but if you think and analyze a little bit it’s just about tuning your senses. When I started learning swimming myself, I really struggled for first few days and the moment I used to try floating, my body used to go down. But I didn’t give up and tried various things for few weeks. And one fine day, I could just float without any support. From that day onwards, I never lost that and now I can swim well. Thinking deeply I realized that it was all about about my body adapting to water. Once it adapted it knows how to respond to water if I keep the basics right.
Similary, when I started learning music, it was hard to differentiate between various notes. My ears could pick the music for appreciation but were never able to get into nitty gritties. Again I realized that my ears are not fine tuned and they don’t have ability to separate various musical notes in a composition. I realized that easiest way to start learning music is to first fint tune my ears by listening to various notes and taking that extra effort to tune my ears to various notes and consciously differentiate them. Indeed, I was correct, I am still learning but definitely I could see the difference as my ears have gradually started differentiating them.
I can give n- number of examples to prove my point but the main point is that you start realizing yourself. If you need to learn something you need to fine tune your senses. We all are gifted with this ability and our senses are already distinctively tuned to some extent. A Painter or an Artist has his eyes & mind tuned, A musician has his ears tuned etc etc.
This is one of the realizations which has come way too late in my life but it has already started making difference in my life. I have started learning various new things myself just by believing in the fact that “All it needs to learn this is fine tune some of my senses”. This has worked for me and this could probably work for you as well.
